As someone who has been playing basketball since they were barely in primary school, I have seen my fair share of ankle sprains on the court over the years. Earlier this year I even experienced one myself much to my dismay and frustration. Ankle sprains are a common injury on the basketball court. The two main culprits: Landing on someone else’s foot during a rebound OR the high speed, lateral movements required by our lower limbs on both offense and defense (think crossover dribble move or defensive sliding). Sometimes even our fancy, cool, colourful basketball shoes that are designed for stability and support can’t stop our ankle rolling over itself leading to a sprain in the ligaments of our ankle.
