Just Move: Celebrating Exercise Right Week 2024!

What is your favourite way to move?

This week we celebrate Exercise Right Week and this year’s theme is Just Move, with the goal of moving your body for 30 minutes each day in May.

Moving for just 30 minutes each day can have a huge positive impact on your physical and mental health. And the best thing is, it doesn’t necessarily have to be high intensity exercise.

What does movement look like?
As an exercise professional, my recommendation for the best form of exercise and movement is the one you most enjoy. Movement can include running, going to the gym, swimming, pilates or yoga, but movement can also be a walk with a friend to get coffee, spending 30 minutes stretching at night before going to bed, dancing in the kitchen, playing kick to kick with the kids or taking the dog to the oval. Any form of movement throughout the day should be celebrated, and this month we’re aiming for 30 minutes every day!

Why does Exercise Right Week matter?

Exercise Right Week is an important reminder to seek appropriate advice from exercise professionals, whether you’re reengaging in exercise, starting a new form of movement or not quite achieving your health and fitness goals.

If you’re returning back to exercise post injury, battling a new medical condition, wanting to improve your mental health or you’ve got some new goals, as an Exercise Physiologist at Maroondah Osteo and Sportscare we are always here to help!

How do I get started?

Find a form of movement you enjoy Engaging in a form of movement and exercise you enjoy will increase your chances of success and long-term compliance

Set realistic goals – start small, set timeframes and celebrate your achievements

Add variety throughout your week – change it up by walking in a new environment, try something new, dance in your kitchen! Your body loves learning new ways to move and you might just find your new favourite form of exercise

Listen to your body – rest is just as important as movement, but rest can also look like a gentle walk around the block or stretching or meditation

Seek professional help when required – don’t forget to book in your consultation with an Exercise Physiologist when you need a bit of advice or help in the right direction. We are always here and happy to help achieve your goals!
